Congressional hearing to focus on FTA's capital investment grants

Tomorrow morning, the House Subcommittee on Highways and Transit will hold a hearing on the Federal Transit Administration's (FTA) implementation of the Capital Investments Grant Program (CIG). The hearing's purpose is to examine how the agency is implementing the CIG program. Scheduled to speak are FTA officials and representatives of the American Public Transportation Association, the American Road & Transportation Builders Association, and the Kansas City Streetcar Authority, according to a press release issued by the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. The CIG is a discretionary program that funds transit capital investments, including heavy rail, commuter rail, light rail, streetcars and bus rapid transit. Federal transit law requires transit agencies seeking CIG funding to complete a series of steps over several years. Last week, the FTA announced a total of $300 million in CIG funds for transit-rail projects in California, Washington and Arizona. Los Angeles Metro, Sound Transit and Valley Metro each received $100 million in CIG funds for projects at their agencies.
